2020 Recap

An Annual Update from William Higginson
Founder and Co-Admin of the Boise Christmas Lights Project

2020 definitely brought a lot of change to the world, and the Boise Christmas Lights Project was not immune to change. The biggest change is that I accepted a new job in San Antonio, so I brought a new (but maybe familiar) face to help with the project - Shannon Luthy, a former light show creator in Meridian! Shannon was very instrumental in keeping the BCL project alive while I got settled into a brand new state and a brand new job. I had very little involvement with the 2020 season, so I need to give a ton of credit to Shannon for taking the reins in such a crucial season.

A unique part of the 2020 season was when people started hanging up their Christmas lights again at the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. This movement started with a single Tweet from a play-by-play sports broadcaster from Wisconsin, and spread across the globe. We had a handful of homes and neighborhoods in the Treasure Valley put up lights and decorations as well. 101.5 KOOL FM and 107.9 LITE FM started playing Christmas music on the radio. It was quite a sight to see!

I was still in Idaho up until just after Halloween, so I was able to get our popular Halloween listings up and running before I made the big cross-country move and handed the reins over to Shannon. We had 21 pins on our Halloween map. Now let's dig into some numbers and stats for the 2020 Christmas season!

We had 126 total pins on our 2020 Christmas Lights Map...
